Flounder hunting

This morning around 8.30, 12 students from Pt England school went down to Wai o Taiki bay to fish for baby flounders. Around 9am the entire school walked down to Wai o Taiki bay to sing some waiatas and say a pray. The waiata that we sang was " Whakataka te hau" This song is about sea life and things about land and sea.

The reason why we are catching baby flounders instead of bigger ones is cause, we are going to put the baby flownders into our school tank and look after it properly, we are going to feed it and take good care of it so when they grow bigger we can give it back to the awa.

So today we catched 20 baby flounders and kauri flat school catched 4 baby flounders, Here are some pictures of baby flounders and big flounders.  Did you know that flounders can be found in different types for example, there can be baby flounders, big flounders and even cooked flounders.

Quality blog comments

This week with Mrs Shearing we learnt about leaving a quality blog comment. She took us through different steps, the first step was that we had to look for a school from the manaiakalani website and then pick a child with their own individual blog, our next step was to create a quality blog comment on a blank slide before publishing it onto the actual blog post. Then once we have finished editing it then we post it onto the actual blog comment. On the top is a screenshot of a girl named Aaliyahna from Glen brae school, she wrote about her trip down to Auckland girls grammar collage, hope you enjoy.

The case of the Broken window and the forbidden fruit

WALT: compare and contrast two stories.

This weeks reading task was about solving a crime. We are trying to learn about comparing two of the same story's together, what we did was very exciting. There is a Venn diagram on the 2 to last slide. The Venn diagram is all about the two same story's and what's the similarity of both of the story's and what happens in both of the stories. This task asked me to read the text careful and try and find the evidence from the text. My favourite thing about these books is how we have to solve out the crime.

Kia orana I am starting to learn all about ratios, this task asked me to solve questions and read them as well. My teacher has gave this working presentation to my maths group the pentagons so that we can show her that we already now how to solve hard questions like ratios. Up on top of this description there is a presentation that was given and if you click the right button until you get to the last slide, slide 7 there should be a video there to help you get your ratios right and if you needed help. I hope you like my work that I have been working on. Please leave a comment.

Delvering newspapers and collecting shells

WALT: solve promblem numbers by using more than one strategy.
     Promblem solving.                                                              My working out.

This week we have been learning about addition and subtraction. We also had to do two stragety for both promblem. One of the stragey was tidy numbers and the other one was place value.

1. 192 + 34 = 226       2. 27 + 39 + 18 =
 100 + 0 = 100                20 + 30 + 10 = 60
90 + 30 = 120                   7 + 9 + 8 = 24
2 + 4 = 6                          60 + 24 = 84
100 + 120 + 6 = 226

As you can see a the top of this writting there is my working out of how I got my answer. If you like this please visit my blog and leave a comment. Thank you.
